How your pay works

Getting paid correctly and on time matters. It is your livelihood, and we treat it that way. We keep pay simple, we are clear about every figure, and there is always a real person you can call if you have a question.

When you get paid

You are paid weekly, in arrears. You work the week, your hours are confirmed, and your pay follows. Once the school approves your timesheet, your pay goes into that week's pay run and reaches your bank account. We will tell you your pay day when you start, so you always know when to expect it.

How timesheets work

• At the end of each week you submit your hours.
• The school confirms them, which is what releases your pay.
• We process approved timesheets in that week's pay run.
• If the school is ever slow to approve one, we chase it for you. You should never be left waiting with no answer.

How you are paid: PAYE and umbrella explained

There are two ways agency workers in education are usually paid. We will tell you which one applies to your assignment, and talk you through what it means for your take home pay before you start.

PAYE

With PAYE, you are paid through our own payroll and we deduct your income tax and National Insurance for you, the same as a normal job. Your payslip shows your gross pay, tax, National Insurance, holiday pay and any pension contributions, all in one place.

Umbrella

With an umbrella arrangement, a separate umbrella company (a specialist payroll provider) becomes your employer and runs your payroll. They deduct your income tax and National Insurance through PAYE in the same way, handle your holiday pay and pension, and keep a small weekly margin for doing so. The rate for umbrella work is set higher to cover employment costs, and your payslip itemises those, so we will always show you your expected take home figure first, with nothing hidden. We only work with reputable, compliant umbrella companies.

No hidden fees either way. Whichever applies to you, we explain every deduction before you start, and if anything on your payslip is ever unclear we will talk you through it line by line.

Holiday pay

You build up holiday pay for every hour you work, in line with your statutory entitlement. We will explain how yours is handled and how to claim it. It is your money and we make it easy to get.

Your pension

Once you qualify, you are automatically enrolled into a workplace pension, with contributions from you and your employer. You can opt out if you want to. We will explain your options in plain terms so you can decide what is right for you.
