WFW is currently working in partnership with a lovely independent special school in Harrow, which caters for children to aged 11-19 years with a diagnosis of autism. This is an incredibly rewarding role which offers a competitive pay package as well as excellent training and progression opportunities to become a qualified ABA Tutor.

The school follows the Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework. As an Autism Specialist at this school, you will be trained using the principles of ABA and PBS by a highly experienced professional team.

Person specification

  • Have a caring, enthusiastic and positive personality
  • Have a hands-on approach and use initiative
  • Be an excellent timekeeper, have good references and record of attendance
  • Experience working with people (ideally children and adolescents) with autism and learning difficulties
  • PECS, Makaton or experience working with people who are non-verbal
  • Willingness to carry out personal care (support with toileting and feeding)
  • Be comfortable to support with swimming and on trips outside of school
  • Have excellent administrative and organisation skills
  • Background in the care, support work and education sectors are encouraged to apply

 

About the role

  • Working within a special education school setting with children aged 11-19 years with a diagnosis of autism
  • Work as a team, alongside teachers, SLT, Behaviour Analysts and other support staff, to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students
  • Ongoing training programme and fantastic career progression opportunities within the school
  • Collect and record accurate data through analysis, observation and assessment
  • To work 1-1 and in groups with students with autism and communication difficulties
  • To plan and lead interventions
  • To use positive handling techniques to de-escalate behaviour and encourage behaviours using positive reinforcement
  • To supervise students in and out of school, such as in the classroom, during playtime, swimming and on school trips
  • To be responsible for the safeguarding and care of all students
  • To ensure teaching materials and resources are age-appropriate and individualised according to the students needs to enhance their learning
  • To actively participate in school meetings, training and CPD
